Three promises

It connects, or it tells you why

Most failed connections are the network, not the app. Castpane checks the usual causes on your PC and tells you what to change in plain words.

Sound comes with it

Audio works out of the box. No audio upgrade, no second app to install, no watermark on the picture.

One price, real trial

Try it free through the Microsoft Store, then buy it once. No subscription, and no popups asking you to rate it.

How it works

  1. Install Castpane on your PC

Get it from the Microsoft Store and open it. Your PC is now ready to receive.

  2. Open Screen Mirroring

On iPhone or iPad, open Control Center and tap Screen Mirroring. On a Mac, open Control Center and click Screen Mirroring.

  3. Pick your PC

Your screen and sound appear in a window on the PC. Both devices need to be on the same network.

The window is yours

  • Move it, resize it, keep it on top, or go full screen.
  • Audio-only mode when you just want sound through the PC speakers.
  • If the connection drops, Castpane recovers by itself and stays visible, so you can reconnect straight away.

When your device can't see the PC

"Not showing up in the list" is the most common complaint about receivers like this, and it is usually caused by the network: a guest Wi-Fi, a PC network set to Public, a firewall prompt that was dismissed, or office Wi-Fi that filters discovery traffic.

Castpane has a connection wizard behind the Can't see this PC? button. It checks the firewall, the network type and your network adapters, and listens for your device to find out whether the problem is one-way.

For Macs on networks that block discovery in one direction, the free Castpane Link menu bar helper asks the PC to announce itself directly to your Mac.

What does not work

  • Netflix, Disney+, the Apple TV app and other protected video cannot be mirrored. This is a limit of Apple's protocol and applies to every third-party receiver. You get a black picture or the app refuses to play. Why.
  • YouTube through the AirPlay button in the YouTube app is being tested. We are not promising it yet.
  • Some networks block devices from seeing each other, such as hotel or guest Wi-Fi with client isolation. If the network forbids it, no receiver can get through. The wizard tells you when this is the case.

Common questions

Can I watch Netflix, Disney+ or the Apple TV app through Castpane?

No. Protected video from apps like Netflix, Disney+ and the Apple TV app cannot be mirrored to Castpane. Apple only sends that video to receivers it has licensed, so every third-party receiver for Windows has this limit, not just Castpane. You usually get sound with a black picture, or the app refuses to play. More about protected video.

Is sound included, or is it an extra purchase?

Sound is included. There is no audio add-on and no second app to install for sound. There is also an audio-only mode if you only want to play sound through the PC.

How much does it cost? Is it a subscription?

One-time purchase. Free trial. You buy it once through the Microsoft Store. No subscription and no watermark. The free trial lets you check that it works on your network before you pay.

Do I need to install anything on my iPhone, iPad or Mac?

Usually not. Your device uses its built-in Screen Mirroring. If your Mac cannot see the PC because the network blocks part of the discovery traffic, the free Castpane Link menu bar helper fixes that. There is no helper for iPhone or iPad, because iOS does not allow one.

Does YouTube work?

Sending video with the AirPlay button inside the YouTube app is being tested. We will only say it works once we have confirmed it.
